Information we collect

Information you give us. When you use the contact form or leave a comment, we collect the name, email address and message you submit. Comments may also store your IP address and browser user-agent to help detect spam.

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our server records standard log data such as IP address, browser type, referring page and the time of your visit. This is used for security and to keep the site running.

Calculator inputs. Functions and numbers you type into the solver, calculators and visual lab are processed entirely in your browser. They are not sent to or stored on our server.

  • Essential cookies set by WordPress, for example to remember your details if you choose to when commenting.
  • Advertising cookies set by Google and its partners (see below).
  • Analytics cookies, if we use an analytics service to understand how visitors use the site.

To load quickly and display mathematics, the site uses:

  • Google Fonts for typefaces, and jsDelivr to deliver the KaTeX math library. These services receive your IP address when your browser downloads the files.
  • Gravatar, which may be used to display profile images next to comments.

How we use information

We use information to operate and secure the site, reply to your messages, moderate comments, understand how the site is used so we can improve it, and show advertising that helps keep the site free.

We do not sell your personal information.

Data retention

Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to respond and follow up. Comments and their metadata are kept until you or we remove them. Server logs are kept for a limited time for security.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR in the EU/UK and the CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal data, to object to processing, and to data portability. Children’s privacy

The site is educational and may be used by students. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
